A Sad Sight

This is what I came across right after I put Duncan’s birthday cake in the oven:

Brown Sugar

I made the America’s Test Kitchen Tunnel of Fudge cake and it turned out very well–especially considering that I left out that 3/4 cup of brown sugar! I am tempted to make this cake again this week just to find out how the extra sugar changes it. If it was good before, will it be fantastic now?

My cake decorating skills aren’t necessarily the strongest, but fortunately Duncan believes bundt cakes are the epitome of elegance. So he doesn’t request fancy cupcakes or a battleship or a spiderman cake–he wants a bundt cake–just like the ones he ogles in the Baker’s Catalogue. Happy to oblige Duncan, happy to oblige! I’m rather fond of bundt cakes myself.

If it was good without the 3/4 cup of sugar, perhaps you should leave well-enough alone and just keep omitting it. It certainly looks good.

Just count your blessings. Chase is requesting a Monster Truck Fire Truck cake for his birthday. Not a cake with a monster truck and a fire truck but a cake that is a fire truck that is also a monster truck. I didn’t even realize such a thing existed.
