Colgate 360 Toothbrush*
Grade: A
Purchase Again: Yes
Highlights: Feels pleasant when you brush. Teeth seem very clean afterwards.
Limitations: I would like more color choices and more distinct colors–when the colors are too similar it makes us more likely to accidentally share toothbrushes!
I brush my teeth for relaxation. When I feel stressed, I find it very calming to brush my teeth. Strange as it sounds, a pleasant toothbrushing session is a deeply satisfying experience for me. So, I am interested in toothbrushes.
Recently, I bought a megapack of toothbrushes at Costco. I wasn’t particularly impressed by the gimmicky-sounding claims on the package; I was simply thrilled to find that Costco was finally stocking compact head toothbrushes with soft bristles (as opposed to the full head toothbrushes or medium bristles they usually stock.) The toothbrushes I bought were the Colgate 360 brand. I have been surprised to discover that they actually do seem like a new and different type of toothbrush.
I was genuinely startled the first time I used my new toothbrush. As you can see in the picture above, there are small bristles on the back side of the toothbrush head. I thought this was just for brushing your tongue. But when I used the brush I discovered that while brushing your teeth, the other side of the head brushes the inside of your cheek! It tickles a little. Once you are used to it (one or two brushings) it feels really nice.
The other thing I noticed was that after brushing, my teeth felt incredibly clean–squeaky clean. Curious to learn more about the design of this toothbrush, I visited the Colgate website. In their FAQs they claim that the 360 brush helps remove over 96% more bacteria than brushing with a regular toothbrush. They also describe how each different type of bristle on the brush has a special function. I don’t know whether this is just marketing fluff or not. I do know that I enjoy brushing with this brush and my teeth feel very clean. I recommend it.
*I have not been in contact with Colgate in any way. This is an independent review.

It is very surreal to be up with insomnia at 3 in the morning and reading toothbrush reviews. I really enjoy reading your writing though, [Pmom], this is proof that you can even make dental hygiene fascinating.
These are the toothbrushes we use, and I agree they need more distinct color choices. Particularly when your husband is color blind and can’t tell the difference between the particular shades of green, blue and orange they have chosen.
Lis, yes we are having a lot of trouble keeping the green and blue brushes separate. But do you like them apart from that or do they seem like pretty average brushes to you?
Therese, yes I hesitated a bit about doing a toothbrush review, but hey, sometimes it’s the small stuff that counts!
You could always wrap a rubberband around the handle… even one of the little clear ones you’d feel and thus avoid sharing hubbie germs. Yuck.
Aside from the color issues I like them a lot. Sharon I think the rubber band idea is a very quick and clever fix. I wish I’d thought of it.
I have to say that becasuse of theis post I was rather wistful as I passed Costco the other day and could not stop. My teeth don’t feel as clean as Pmom’s. I just know it.
Actually I think that the bristles on on other side are so that instead of chomping down on the top of your toothbrush, but because of the bristles instead your teeth just sink into the softish jell and no bite marks appear on that side. Also it is much more enjoyable to brush your teeth.
